Square Wave

breaking the lights

February 23, 2017

Square Wave breaks sunlight into a dazzling pattern of colours, constantly changing, constantly moving. The installation consist of 81 small rotors breaking light frequencies using refractive foil in order to create a ‘natural’ course of dynamic light. The rotors are suspended from a frame consisting of four concentric squares. Square Wave is conceived, designed and constructed in collaboration with Edwin Dertien commissioned by the Math faculty of University of Twente. Due to an infortunate re-location of the department, the work temporarily became orphaned.
